I quit buying Optodisc for that very reason. I did have good success with them early on, but the last batches were terrible. And since media is coming down in price now, BB and other stores have very similar prices at 100 for under $100, so I don't even bother with the off the wall brand media. But if you do want good media that is fairly inexpensive, Samsung has always worked well for me.

Hi QAguy,

I had an issue with Ritek from shop4tech.com and notified them and they promptly sent me out Leda in exchange. I only burn to +RW and have been using nothing but Optodisk +RW (under 1.00 each and re-writable)from them since early last year with excellent results. I have come to believe from this forum that what works for one person's set-up does not work for everyone and their indiviual set-ups.

I think your right on that...I've used nothing but Ritek +R's for the last year, only coasters were my fault (or Budweisers)

I'm now using the Ritek -R type. First three have been great so far. You're right about +R or +RW... Plextor leans heavily towards this side it seems to me. Though the Ritek -R were on the list of compatibles. Seems its the +R that will burn at the 8X speed using just the Ritek 4X.

Thanks everyone for your observations.

I'm talking about HUB-printable +Rs; the ones that are printable right down to the edge of the center hole. Or ANY silver printable +Rs. They don't exist AFAIK.

I've never seen ANY blanks that can print inside the hub. The standard specifies something like a 50mm dead area. You've seen them capable of printing inside that area?

Yeah, -Rs are easy to find, but not +Rs.

The standard is 40mm, but I usually print my Optodiscs at 39mm and Riteks at 42mm. But I'd like to buy some +Rs that will print around 23mm.

Good pricing information!
Unfortunately none of their media is on my manufacturers recommended or compatible list. At least for the +R that I was hoping to buy with your discount coupon codes.

Thanks and keep posting this information!

Supergreg: tell us which brand you bought and later tell us what your success with burning on that media was like.

Thanks,

I haven't found any brand that WON'T work in my HP DVD200i or my Plextor PX-708a, and I don't think I have any brands that are listed by either drive mfr. Just try some of the cheap ones - you'll probably find that you can save a BUNCH of money and get the same results. If you want to try some without buying whole packs, PM me and I'll hook you up with a few each of several brands.

I've been burning with Digital Matrix 4X R+'s.
I haven't had a bad one yet. I've got a TDK 420N. From what I've heard there picky about what media will work with them, but I've used Memorex, Sony, CompUSA. They all work, but Digital Matrix is much cheaper.

I don't get it. Why with my Plextor Plextor PX-708A/UF I have a hard time runnin anything not on the recommended or compatible list? Or are you talkin using the HP when the Plex doesn't?

I can see why this is a problem when the specs are tight. It leaves no room for whimpy shi* media with no quality makings. Thats why Plex is a great drive otherwise.

Some time ago, I had problems with the lot of 'em. Went to Atlanta Comdex, talked to Plextor and they hooked me up. Ever since, I've not turned tail. They're the bomb albeit they're much pickier with coaster materials.

I tried the cheaps and learned the hard way. Want the best then ya gotta stay in line or the cheaps aren't cheap no more.

Cool you have two drive to play the spread though!

No, I use any brand/speed in either burner. I only recently got the Plextor, so I don't have many -Rs and I haven't burned ANY, but ALL my +Rs work in both drives. I don't remember all the names, but I know I've got Fuji, Verbatim, Memorex, ValuDisc, Khypermedia, Ritek, TDK, & Imation. Actual manfacturers include Ricoh, Optodisc, & CMC Mag. I have some StarLogic -Rs, but I haven't burned any of them yet or any of the printable -Rs (Optodisc, I think).

Hi serious,

I am right there with you, I only burn to +RW and have also been using Optodisc from shop4tech.com for under 1.00 each. However I had to send my last batch back for a credit as they were not even recognized by my burner, which is highly unusual, as I have burned many, many Optodisc all the time with no problem. I like shop4tech.com as they stand behind what they sell. I ordered 100 pk. of Ritek at just over 1.00 each with free shipping also this time around from CdrdvdrMedia.com . I must say though that it is good to see the +RW media coming down to a good price.
