DVD's won't play on Toshiba SD-P2000 Portable

JohnnyL Inactive 31 Dec 2002 2:26 AM	The XCOPY discs play fine on all other players except my Toshiba Portable. The Portable plays discs that I made using Pinnacle Studio or SonicMyDVD. If it plays R, +R, RW, +RW discs that are made with other programs, why won't it play discs made with XCOPY? By the way, I have latest EVERYTHING on my system (software version, firmware etc on the Sony DRU-500a and I have also made the discs using the ISO/UDF feature and neither option works with this player...Otherwise I love this program. Any assistance or troubleshooting steps??? Thanks in advance.

calendar Inactive 28 Jan 2003 9:07 AM	I just read the message and tried my Toshiba SD-P2000 Portable player; it does not work either. I see this question was originally posted back in December. How do we get a answer. I also saw that somebody was having trouble with a different type of Toshiba player, but there problem was resolved by trying a different brand of media. I have tried a few different types and none of them are read by my Toshiba SD-P2000 player.

jetskiman Junior Member 28 Jan 2003 1:50 PM	Thank you for your response. I followed your link. We've tried all 4 possible combinations of Nero, Gear, UDF and ISO/UDF. 2 don't even recognize that a DVD is inserted and 2 appear to 'see' a DVD (the insert DVD message goes away) but nothing happens.
321_Q/A Inactive 28 Jan 2003 2:39 PM	Hmmm... Must be either the player or the media then. Have you tried some other brands of blank DVD's? They can make a huge difference in compatibility between players.
linetest Inactive 28 Jan 2003 2:52 PM	I have a SD-P2000 Toshiba. Plays my DVD+ Xcopy copies fine. And Toshiba lists it as being DVD- compatible only. The problem that occurs with a portable is that since they can run on battery power only, the laser is not nearly as powerful as a tabletop unit. The DVD must be absoloutly clean and free from smudges. If your DVD disk is pristine, then as stated, I would try different media.

linetest Inactive 28 Jan 2003 4:26 PM	Guess I should have included more info.... DVDXcopy 1.3 (will try 1.4 tonight), Memorex DVD+RW drive, Memorex DVD+ Blanks. No special settings. I have been using Gear drivers all along. Note: The Toshiba was used with disks burned using Xcopy v1.1 or some such. I waited through 1.2. Now run 1.3, but I have not used a disk from a 1.3 burn. I'd like to think it still works, but now I'll have to test it tonight. Burning backups to use on the road with this great DVD player was a major factor in purchasing the software. I will update here after a quick test tonight or tomorrow AM.
jetskiman Junior Member 28 Jan 2003 4:44 PM	We've tried different brands of -R and +R media (purchased a demo pack of various brands of media plus bought others as well). Same symptom. It's a brand new drive. It was bought to replace a brand new Samsung portable that failed the same way with these XCopy disks.
linetest Inactive 28 Jan 2003 7:16 PM	Well, I've retested this stuff. Xcopy 1.3.1 discs play fine on the portable. I made a Disk 2 of a movie tonight using version 1.4. Plays without trouble. Again, I'm using Memorex DVD+R blanks, using default drivers in Xcopy. The SD-P2000 has a manufacture date of Aug 2002 as soon on the tag under the unit. Perhaps if your drive is older, maybe there is a firmware update available from Toshiba? Anyway, it looks like all versions of Xcopy (or at least three versions) work fine on that player.

rfarrel1 Newbie 29 Jan 2003 6:48 PM	I've been having the same problem. I've isolated it to the last two releases of nero. With 1.3 I was getting good copies with DVD-R's that ran on my SD-P2000 but not my xbox. 1.31 required a update to nero. The newer versions or nero give me DVD-R's that work on the xbox but now not on my SD-P2000. When they start to play on the SD-P2000 the player just hangs. I have to unplug it. I hope someone can fix this??
JohnnyL Inactive 2 Feb 2003 2:59 PM	I think I found out the problem. I can play xcopy'd discs in the player as long as it is plugged into the wall. If it is running on battery power, it won't play. I'll try different media and see if there is any difference.
rfarrel1 Newbie 2 Feb 2003 7:56 PM	Power source doesn't matter for mine. My copies work well on the PC and xbox but lock up the SD-P2000. I hope someone can figure this out. I've made a bunch of DVD-R's that don't work on the Toshiba.
linetest Inactive 3 Feb 2003 8:52 AM	I don't use the battery for the unit. It's on regular AC or through a power inverter in the truck. So I can't say about the battery operation. But like i said, to conserve power, the laser does not have anywhere near the power of a set top player. Media and cleanliness of the media are importatnt factors. I was lucky enough to have a combination of recorder, media, and players that all worked well. Although the new Cyberhome player I got free with my big screen won't play my copies. And yet it supposed to according to some of the player reports at afterdawn.
