Can be a fatal assumption to thinkthat the brand on the package says anything about the product inside. For example, it's come to my attention that the color of the base of the cake box says more about what's inside the package than the name on the label. I believe a gray base means Ricoh is the actual supplier. I've had very mixed results with Verbatim product and have noticed a correlation between good media and the color of the base.

I agree if I get Verbatim it is a gray bottom or I don't get it.

Well that's silly pricing for Office Max. Get five of the five packs for $4.99 with jewel cases and it's $12 cheaper than the 25 pack without jewel cases.

My guess is the 5-packs & 10-packs are 2.4x and the 25-pack is 4x. They're moving later versions to larger packaging for the most part.

From what I have read on this forum and the great advise that has been given by the moderators and others that have spent a lot of time researching DVDXCopy. It seems that the consensus is that DVD+r does a more complete burn and has less errors than DVD-r. For testing purposes I have used both. I have a Sony DRU-510a burner that burns both formats. I personally haven't had too many coasters with both formats. I use exclusively Ritek burn media, which I have found and many people on this forum have found to be the best. If I were to guess from what I have read on this forum and elsewhere the DVD+r format will probably win out in the end. The +r format seems to play without errors on more standalone DVD players too. Hope this helps

Thanks for the responce. I am thinking of buying a new burner. I have a pioneer DVD-rw DVR-104. But I want to have one that will burn both media. I do have a Sony Vaio and will check out the Sony DVD burners.

I was looking into the Sony DRU-510A burner and the Plextor PX-708A The only problem with the plextor is that it only burns MPEG-1 format
Does the Sony do both MPEG 1&2? tough one to choose. Any suggestions?

Why do you say that the Plextor will not burn a MPEG-2 file?
Do you mean the software that comes with it will only encode to MPEG-1?
I have the DRU-510A, and love it. But hey 8x sounds good. :)

I was reading the specs and the compatible formats for video cd is mpeg 1 . I do not really need the speed . Everything I have is Sony. I copy me DVD's with dvdxcopy platinum and love it, also I use Pinnacle studio's to do my home movies. I guess I am looking for a burner that will have the least problems with the programs that I already have.

Drizzt,
Although this is off-topic (and if you want to discuss it further I would appreciate it if you did so in another thread or through PMs) I suggest the DRU-510a. It's a good burner and should give you no problems. It is also compatible with most media and, as Martha would say, that's a good thing.
The Plextor is really fast, but I personally haven't even seen any 8X media around yet, so you won't even be able to take advantage of that speed for a little while - at least not cost-effectively as I'm sure the media will be more expensive. One of our sales guys here at the office tested one a few months ago though and he had no problems.
But, before you dive in, why not shoot the tech-support boys over at 321 an e-mail and ask them what they think? You might get an interesting response. Here's the address: support@321studios.com. Or you could PM 321_w00t - he's one of the DVD XPERTS.
