Can't get ANY game to work

This is the first week of using the software which I just bought I've been trying to back-up four games:

Far Cry
Need for Speed: Underground
Tron 2.0
Halo

I used the generic CD-RW in my tower to burn the discs. None of the games would install. So I installed them from the originals, trying to use the back-ups for play. That doesn't work, only the originals work.

So I read a thread about using the Pioneer DVD-RW DVDR 106R, which I have as an external. Although it's quirky at first (various errors), the new back-up of Halo will get the game playing. Tron now plays fine, haven't tried to install it from the back-up though. But Far Cry and Need for Speed are worthless again, even when I have Games X Copy running in the background and am playing it from the Pioneer burner.

Am I doing something wrong? Could the variable be as simple as the burner and some games just won't work? I just use the default Novice mode. I have tried Expert but maybe I'm not totally sure what settings to tweak to make every game work.

Thanks for any help!!

Software version: 1.2.2
HP Pavillion P4 2.8
512 Ram
100GB HD

Games XCopy was alright with older protections but didn't handle the new ones very well. Both Far Cry (SafeDisc 3.15) and NFSU (SafeDisc 2.90.040) are relatively new and tough to beat if you don't have the right tools and hardware.

In order to make a working backup of these new protections you need a burner that can write EFM correctly and the Pioneer 106 isn't one of them.

For more information I'd suggest you check out this link:

Thanks so much for your reply, I kinda figured it was the new software in place.

Do you (or anyone else) know what I could get (software or hardware) to fix the newer safedisc issues, writing the EFM correctly?

Thanks again for your reply, I was thinking I was alone in my frustration. :)

Not by a long shot. Backing up PC games can be a very frustrating endeavor at times!
